We welcome children to our practice and try to make their visits as enjoyable as possible.
Eye examinations for children

Children do not always realise they have a sight defect so annual eye tests are strongly recommended for all children under 16yrs.

Where required, we can use objects, pictures and letters to assess your child's vision and check their visual development.

Upgrade your child's examination from our NHS test to include Optomap for £10 - we recommend this upgrade to all children - after all, Optos was invented because a 5-year-old boy lost his sight.

We also offer an upgrade to include Optomap & OCT for £19 - we recommend where clinically beneficial.

If your child needs glasses we have a lovely selection of hand-picked fun and funky frames, specially designed for young, growing faces.

Campbell & McDearmid give all children £30 towards any frame and your child's NHS Optical Voucher covers the cost of basic prescription lenses. Upgrades to thinner, lighter lenses, photochromic (colour changing), tinted lenses and sunglasses are available with specially reduced prices for children.
Myopia management
Myopia (or short-sightedness) is a problem across the globe with more children experiencing it than ever before.
Myopic vision generally worsens over time and may increase the chance of developing other eye problems. This is why diagnosing and managing myopia quickly and effectively is so important to a child’s health and well-being.
At Campbell & McDearmid we offer several myopia management options, such as special spectacle lenses and contact lenses which may slow the progression of myopia.
